MITOMED partners in Cyprus for the Sea Basin Action Plan

On 19th-20th March 2015 Larnaca District Development Agency will host the 3rd transnational meeting of  MITOMED project.

Partners will arrive in Cyprus ready to work together and with local experts to design the MITOMED Action Plan for sustainable and competitive tourism in the Mediterranean Sea Basin.

The starting point for this Action Plan is the intensive work carried out by MITOMED partners over previous months. 4 Gap and SWOT analyses of coastal areas have been completed and are being shared with key local stakeholders in an open consultation. A set of indicators for sustainable and competitive has been developed alongside these studies, adapting the assessed system of indicators for sustainable tourism developed by the NECSTouR Network - as advocated by COM(2010) 352 “Europe, the world's No 1 tourist destination - a new political framework for tourism in Europe”, Action 11.

The MITOMED activities have not been limited to the project consortium: thanks to an open call for expression of interests, 5 further MED regions (members of NECSTouR) are now contributing on the basis of their own coastal tourism systems.

These valuable sets of knowledge and expertise are being gathered together to develop the MED-wide Sea Basin GAP Analysis. This analysis will be discussed at the Cyprus meeting in view of the Action Plan, of an open consultation at EU level and the series of public events foreseen for the final project months.
